Extraordinary Journeys Expands Family-Friendly Experiences in Africa

Extraordinary Journeys has unveiled a range of new family-forward safari experiences tailored for all age groups across its African destinations. The tour operator recommends South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana as family safari destinations. Lately, Kenya and Tanzania have become more accessible to families thanks to safari camps and lodges that cater for children.

In Tanzania and Kenya, Extraordinary Journeys’ family itineraries include new safari sites that give families exclusive use of their own “camp within the camp.” The private sites sport amenities such as private guides, dining spaces, fire pits and a private or additional shared pool.

Besides game drives, family safaris offer many other experiences for children to enjoy, including bush walks to look for tracks, horseback or camel riding, local village visits, cooking with the camp’s chef, hanging out near a waterhole (where the wildlife comes to you), helicopter safaris, young explorers programs, and more.

In Tanzania, Asilia Africa has launched two new “Retreats” at both Sayari and Namiri Plains camps, Serengeti, creating a personal space for families. Complete with a private guide and vehicle, host and dedicated chef, the Retreats offer a unique safari experience. Each Retreat has two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge and dining area, and a veranda leading to a private fire pit.

In Kenya, Sanctuary Tambarare offers a new two-bedroom villa in Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Guests will enjoy the indoor and outdoor lounge and dining area, bar, private deck and boma.

Additionally, Offbeat Ndoto, with just four tents in the Mara North Conservancy, offers a new two-bedroom suite. The spacious accommodations are ideal for families, and have two bedrooms with shower rooms, a private sitting/dining room, a private bar, fireplace and an outdoor dining area on the deck, which offers views of the surrounding wilderness. Ndoto is the biggest tent Offbeat has yet created, and it comes with Wi-Fi, a private guide and vehicle.

Extraordinary Journeys also recommends Botswana for multigenerational groups. The destination offers a range of family accommodations and safari options.
